{"id":2225,"date":"2025-08-21T08:11:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T22:11:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wombatforestcare.org.au\/wordpress\/?p=2225"},"modified":"2025-10-02T13:44:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T03:44:09","slug":"rare-plant-searches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wombatforestcare.org.au\/index.php\/rare-plant-searches\/","title":{"rendered":"Rare plant searches"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>In 2009, Wombat Forestcare developed a project based around locating rare and threatened plant species in the Wombat Forest.<\/h4>\n<p>Biodiversity officers in Department of Environment and Sustainability (DSE) provided information on plants for which they had records but had been unable to locate.<\/p>\n<p>Searches for Satinwood (<em>Nematolepis squamea<\/em>) were unsuccessful, and it is thought to have been lost from the Wombat Forest.<\/p>\n<h3>Wombat Leafless Bossiaea (<em>Bossiaea vombata<\/em>)<\/h3>\n<p>Searches for&nbsp;Wombat Leafless Bossiaea (<em>Bossiaea vombata<\/em>)<em>&nbsp;<\/em>were successful. Four plants were located<strong>.&nbsp;<\/strong>Due to the rhizomatous nature of their root system, each plant covers a reasonably large area. There are only five plants known to exist in the wild on our planet and it is now listed as critically endangered under the FFG Act.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2443\" style=\"width: 760px\" <em>Bossiaea<\/em>&nbsp;species shows novel taxa, population dynamics and conservation strategies\u201d Eilish McMaster et al.&nbsp;identified an entirely new population of the <em>Bossiaea pardalinum)<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>The Spotted Hyacinth Orchid is listed as endangered under the FFG Act and is found throughout the Wombat Forest in summer.<\/p>\n<p>For most of the year, plants are dormant and have no above-ground presence. Wombat Forestcare members have undertaken surveys for this plant without success.
