This project is a partnership between the Victorian National Parks Association (VNPA) and Wombat Forestcare with support from Arthur Rylah Institute for Environmental Research and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.
Wombat Forestcare in conjunction with VPNA Naturewatch is using night vision cameras to help us identify the fauna of the Wombat Forest.
The VNPA have released a free download of a Mammal Guide to the Wombat Forest, based on the motion camera images from the project carried out in the Wombat Forest.

Volunteers from community groups and the VNPA will use motion sensing cameras to gather much needed information on the little understood impact of fire on mammals.
The project will utilise the thirty research sites from Wombat Forestcare’s Arboreal Mammal Project with two other sites to be established.
Given that we have such a limited understanding of how the small fauna that live in these areas respond to fire, data collected by volunteers on this project will be of great importance to improving our knowledge.
This is a great way to participate in the collection of valuable data, receive training in camera operation and spend time in our very special forest.
This project is funded through the Australian Government’s Caring for Our Country, the R.E. Ross Trust and the ANZ Staff Foundation.
