Barking Owl Surveys

Barking Owls (Ninox connivens) inhabit open woodland forest habitats where forests adjoin farmlands.

Wombat Forestcare member, Trevor Speirs located a pair of Barking Owls in the northern section of the Wombat Forest abutting farmland. He has established the location of a breeding hollow in a large Candlebark (Eucalyptus rubida) on a creek bank.

Barking Owls are listed as critically endangered under the FFG Act and it is estimated that there are only about 50 breeding pairs left in Victoria.
